Only houses of those to be resettled demolished

Residents of Kg Bakau here should not be swayed by allegations that City Hall was unnecessarily demolishing their houses. Karambunai assemblywoman, Jainab Ahmad said only the houses of those who had paid the deposit to the resettlement in Telipok Jaya will be taken down.

“City Hall is not that cruel to just evict people and demolish their houses. It is wrong for these quarters to accuse the BN government of being heartless,” Jainab said. According to her, about 100 families currently residing in Kg Bakau Likas have agreed to be resettled in Telipok Jaya, have paid the RM100 deposit for a house there and have received the keys to the said houses.

Jainab who is also assistant minister of Industrial Development said there are about 600 families in Kg Bakau Likas and 300 of them accepted the government’s offer to move them to the resettlement in Telipok Jaya.

Of the total 100 have received their keys while the remaining 200 families who have not paid the deposit will be given some time to do so and will be allowed to stay in Kg Bakau. According to her, some of those who have received the keys to the houses in Telipok Jaya have instead rented out the houses and decided to continue living in Kg Bakau.

“This causes a lot of problems and they should not complain when the authorities demolish their houses because they have been given new accommodation but did not want to move,” she stressed. (from pemudasabah.blogspot.com)
